SHOULD WE MAKE REQUESTS OR LET THE DJ DO HIS/HER THING?

As a Dj and as a more then willing participant at all of the events we are booked for, I, Matt Watts, have no issue with fielding the massive wave of requests that typically accompanies the floodgates opening for request. Because the people making the requests are typically the life of your event, catering to their dancing preferences into account is surely preferential yet being a professional entertainer and getting payed to entertain implies that you should be able to handle music execution your own.

Well prepared Djs, have a tendency to have entire party playlists and sets of music, or vibe blocks pre-qued and ready to go for the event type. Whether they draw from past events, research or personal preference every entertainer you hire should be able to perform without any request from the crowd. After literally thousands of events, Starshield has established a litany on preferential playlists and sets that have been proven successful in the field. The best entertainers and djs have the capacity to field requests and plug them seamlessly into their already established vibe. From a Dj’s perspective, requests have a tendency to be rather specific and without pre-face will likely throw your entire vibe off.

A great dj will most likely put a pin in your request and use it later so don’t get discouraged if your song doesn’t come-up immediately. Inexperienced djs have a tendency to plug requests in without forethought or just deny requests as whole even though he/she writes them down. I would never discourage party goers from making requests, it is typically up to the Dj, if he or she is good enough, you request may become part of the party.
