Richard, the Owner and Operator, embarked on his entertainment career in Rochester, NY, while attending the Rochester Institute of Technology (RIT), where he pursued a degree in Information Security and Forensics.
"Yes, I am fully aware that this is the polar opposite of what the entertainment industry is... I promise there is a story behind this," - Richard, Owner.
During his freshman year of college in 2008, he spotted an ad for an event DJ position and decided to apply. In short, he applied, missed the interview (because he found it odd), but the company's owner called him and offered Richard another chance.
He rapidly became one of the most sought-after DJ entertainers for the company, and the rest is history!
Starshield Entertainment was established in November 2012 and is actually named after one of his fraternity's symbols, the "starshield" (with permission, of course). The original logo, replaced in 2018, was even modeled after this symbol. Starshield wasn't intended to be a large company; in fact, Rich only wanted to use it to pay off school loans and keep things simple. However, the demand grew, necessitating expansion.
Now, in 2023, we have a team of 15 employees and handle 65 events a month during our peak season!

The staff dynamic at Starshield Entertainment comes naturally because we hire individuals who are fun and engaging. Our business model focuses on creating a great environment where everyone genuinely enjoys hanging out and learning from each other. A typical weekend after events often involves the staff hanging around the warehouse or participating in company-funded BBQs and pool parties at the owner's house!
Starshield staff are hired based on their personalities and their abilities to engage crowds, manage people, and think on their feet.
We prefer to hire someone who embodies the spirit of Starshield in their soul, and then train and shape them to meet the expectations of what Starshield represents.
